LESSON TO BE LEARNED FROM TRAGEDY SAYS AMBASSADOR
KLANG (Malaysia), Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Indonesians living in Malaysia are
advised to be careful when deciding their choice of travel when returning home
and also learn a lesson from Tuesday's boat tragedy that claimed 12 lives in
Port Klang.
Indonesia's Ambassador to Malaysia, Da'i Bachtiar said those planning to
return home should choose a vessel that has safety features and not just take
chances that could be risky.
"I hope such incidents do not happen in the future but first and foremost
Indonesian nationals who live in Malaysia must not take risks when planning
their return, especially during festive seasons," he said.
Bachtiar who visited the 18 victims receiving treatment at the Tengku
Ampuan
Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) here Tuesday also expressed his sincere gratitude on
behalf of the Indonesian government, to the government of Malaysia and HTAR for
treating the victims.
Eleven women and one man drowned while 125 others were rescued after a
wooden barge ferrying Indonesians sank in the waters off Pintu Gedong, 15km from
Westport this morning.
The barge was believed to have sunk 10 minutes after setting sail from a
forest area in Pulau Che Mat Zin, near Westport, for Tanjong Balai in
Sumatra.
