Army Chief:Curfew will not be imposed in Pattani

BANGKOK, February 2 (TNA) - Army Commander-in-Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha says that security authorities have no plan to impose curfew in Pattani Province in Thailand's deep South, despite recent violence involving paramilitary rangers' gun attack on a pick-up truck killing four villagers and injuring some others. General Prayuth reasoned that an imposition of curfew in the area could cause misunderstanding among foreigners that the situation in the Thai restive South turned more violent, acknowledging that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has ordered a straightforward investigation and fair treatment. General Prayuth insisted that investigators are finding out whether the paramilitary rangers overreacted, assuring that wrongdoers will be definitely punished and all damaged parties will be compensated. The army chief said he has ordered Commanding General of the 4th Army Area Command Lieutenant General Udomchai Thammasarorat to restore relations with local people. (TNA)
