Result Of Bank Century Audit Already Optimal
Jakarta, Feb 2 (ANTARA) - The State Audit Board (BPK) says that its audit on the former Bank Century is already optimal and independent.
"If BPK cannot enter all institutions to trace the flows of funds from Bank Century so far it was not because BPK was not independent but because the law forbade it," BPK chief Hadi Purnomo said at a meeting with the House of Representatives` monitoring team of the Bank Century case at the parliament building here on Wednesday.
The meeting was led by deputy chairman of the Regional Representatives Council, Taufik Kurniawan, and attended by all BPK executives.
Hadi Purnomo said what the BPK had given to the monitoring team was the optimum results of its investigative audit on the bank.
He admitted BPK could not unveil all flows of funds from PT Antaboga Delta Sekuritas (ADI) due to banking laws that would not allow it to do it.
"PT ADI is put under the supervision the Indonesia Stock Exchange Supervisory Agency (Bapepam) and according to banking regulations their documents are not allowed to be opened," he said.
He said BPK is an audit agency not an investigation agency and so it could not forcibly do it. He said BPK in carrying out its duty always respects the laws.
Taufik Kurniawan said the results of BPK`s investigative audit on the Century Bank were not yet optimal.
Monitoring team members meanwhile have been qusetioning the flows of funds from the Century Bank to PT ADI and so forth.
The meeting was held after BPK submitted the results of its further audit on the bank on December 23, 2011.
The government decided to bail out the Century Bank in the midst of financial crisis in 2008 citing its systemic effect. The House of Representatives meanwhile has suspected of possible corruption in the bailout. The BPK has said that it has so far found no indications of corruption in the bailout.
