Don Muang Airport to re-open in early March

BANGKOK, Feb 4 (TNA) - Thailand’s Civil Aviation Department (CAD) and Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd. (AOT) have agreed to jointly hold a ceremony to officially re-open Bangkok's Don Muang Airport on March 2, 2012. The CAD said that the re-opening of the Don Muang Airport, now the main domestic airport in the Thai capital, will show the airport’s readiness for its resumption of commercial use, after Thailand's massive flooding late last year, which damaged the airport's runway. According to CAD, low-cost Nok Air, a subsidiary of Thai Airways International or THAI, the national flag carrier, is scheduled to resume its aviation services at the Don Muang Airport on March 6; while "THAI Smile Air", a new sub-brand carrier of THAI with its inaugural flight set on July 1, 2012, is expected to also use the Don Muang Airport as its main airport. The CAD acknowledged that there are also more airlines which have expressed their interest in using the Don Muang Airport, formerly Thailand's main international airport, as their operations base, including Thai AirAsia, a regional low-cost airline with its headquarters based in Malaysia.
