Thailand's opposition leader recommends peaceful way of Charter amendments
BANGKOK, February 6 (TNA) - Thailand's main opposition Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has suggested that the Pheu Thai government stay away from the royal institution and any amnesty attempt for convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to prevent conflicts in the country over constitutional amendments.
Abhisit said Monday that the government should have a clear scope of the planned Charter amendments and avoid all factors which could lead to domestic conflicts.
Abhisit urged that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra pay attention to relieving conflicts, claiming that the Puea Thai premier had promised to use her femininity to resolve conflicts but she had not proved to do so.
Meanwhile, Puea Thai Party Spokesman Prompong Nopparit told reporters that his party has already drafted an amendment to the 2007 Constitution with a change concerning Section 291 for the formation of the Constitution Drafting Assembly, his ruling party's stance promised with people during its vote campaigns last year.
According to the spokesman, the government whip committee was set to discuss the issue today and the Pheu Thai Party will consider it on Tuesday, before forwarding it to the House of Representatives next week. (TNA)
