Thai authority to discuss drug solutions with Myanmar

BANGKOK, February 6 (TNA) - Thailand's Narcotics Control Board Secretary-General Police General Adul Saengsingkaew is scheduled to visit Myanmar Tuesday to discuss solutions to cross-border drug trade, as 70 per cent of narcotics available in Thai areas were found to have been smuggled from Myanmar. Police General Adul told journalists Monday that he will meet Myanmar police chief for the discussion, acknowledging that drug convicts on death row have been more involved in drug trafficking; therefore, control on them needs to be tighter but should not violate their rights. Meanwhile, the governor of Pichit Province in the Lower Thai North led over 1,000 community leaders and villagers to make a vow to intensify drug crackdowns and rehabilitation this year. In Thailand's northeastern Mukdahan Province, two Lao siblings were arrested on the Thai bank of the Mekong River in Wan Yai District while being on their way to deliver 126 methamphetamine pills in exchange for a motorcycle. In Phuket Province in the Thai South, over 200 local administrative officials searched the provincial prison and conducted a urine test for drugs on 104 inmates, finding neither illegal objects nor trace of drug abuse; while local police also searched 45 target locations for narcotics and found crystal methamphetamine in Kathu District.
