Thailand to resolve floods on sustainable basis
BANGKOK, February 11 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Friday that her government planned reforestation to solve Thailand's flooding problems on a sustainable basis.
Yingluck told reporters of the policy when visiting an exhibition on royal development projects in Thailand's northern resort Chiang Mai Province, where she also attended a meeting with concerned authorities and royal project coordinators and sponsors to discuss the reforestation in catchment areas in the Thai North to prevent floods.
Meanwhile, authorities in Bangkok and other provinces were preparing flood prevention measures as a precaution, in the wake of a massive flooding in the country late last year, as Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi expressed his confidence that the government would be handling flood-related problems more properly, after learning a lesson from last year's flooding crisis.
