Six Cambodians killed in road accident in Thailand

SAKAEO, February 11 (TNA) - Cambodian people hired a van to attend a funeral in Thailand's eastern Sa Kaeo Province Friday, but their vehicle slammed into a six-wheeled truck, killing eight people instantly, six of them were the Cambodian nationals, and five others were injured. The accident took place at the 59th kilometer marker on Kanchanaphisek Ring Road heading toward Bang Na area. The white van hit a six-wheeled container truck, sending the truck to hit another cement truck parked in its front. Eight passengers on the van were killed instantly, consisting of two Thai people and six Cambodians. Five people were injured and were sent to a nearby hospital; while the van driver fled the scene. The injured said they hired the van from Pathum Thani province to Sa Kaeo and they did not know what caused the accident because they were sleeping. Police initially assumed that the driver might doze off so the van slammed into the container truck parked by the highway, saying that they were tracing the driver and questioning the van owner.
