Third Ministerial Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement on Advancement of Women Kicks Off Tomorrow

Doha, February 11 (QNA) - The Third Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement on the Advancement of Women kicks off tomorrow, Sunday at Doha Ritz Carlton Hotel and continues for three days with participation of about 500 representatives from more than 80 member-countries. Qatar's delegation to the meeting will be headed by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah. HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al Thani will open the opening session OF the senior officials , while the head of the Movement of Non-Aligned "Egypt" will give a welcome speech on this occasion. The participants during the plenary meeting of the senior officials will discuss the agenda, Report of the President of the Coordinating Bureau of Non-Aligned Movement on the results of the preparatory work for the Third Ministerial meeting, and its recommendations and to consider the "Doha Declaration" which will be issued at the conclusion of the ministerial meeting in addition to the work program for the advancement of women in world of challenges. HE Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah will open the Third Ministerial Meeting, While Dr. Juhayna Saif Al Essa, Vice-President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and member of Qatar's delegation to the Third Ministerial Meeting will deliver Qatar's speech at the meeting. The Third Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement on the Advancement of Women to be held in Doha after the first meeting in Malaysia in 2005, which focused on globalization and the advancement of women .. While the second meeting in Guatemala in 2009 and focused on the States' implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the empowerment of women. The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) organization was founded in Belgrade in 1961. The purpose of the organization as stated in the Havana Declaration of 1979 is to ensure "the national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of non-aligned countries" in their "struggle against imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism, and all forms of foreign aggression, occupation, domination, interference or hegemony as well as against great power and bloc politics.” The countries of the Non-Aligned Movement represent nearly two-thirds of the United Nations' members and contain 55% of the world population. Membership is particularly concentrated in countries considered to be developing or part of the Third World. (QNA)
