Foreign Ministry Completes Preparations for National Sports Day

Doha, February 12 (QNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs completed its preparations for Qatar National Sports Day, which is scheduled on Tuesday, to implement the Emiri decision issued by HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, which declares the second Tuesday of February every year shall be observed as a sport day. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a number of sport events, including health-enhancing physical activity, in addition to social, cultural and entertainment activities through a program for all the ministry's staff and their families and the staff of diplomatic missions accredited to the State. Celebrating the Sports Day, HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah formed a committee under the chairmanship of HE the Assistant Minister For Services Affairs to organise programs for the sports day. The ministry allocated a site in Al-Khuraitiat area to celebrate the Sports Day where there is a large tent and a football field. Sporting uniforms were also distributed to all the ministry's staff and the diplomatic missions. The program includes walking for a few kilometers, healthy breakfast and a football match between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a team representing the diplomatic missions accredited to the State. In a statement on this occasion, HE Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah said that sport, as one of the most prominent tools and mechanisms for public diplomacy, has become an integral part of the function of the governmental official diplomacy and it contributes to plant the basic values ??of tolerance, reconciliation, cooperation and mutual respect. HE Al-Attiyah stressed that the allocation of a day of sport in the state is a translation of the Qatar National Vision 2030 which seeks to invest in human resources to develop a healthy generation able to participate in the march of the Renaissance and the overall development of the state. He also noted to Qatar's achievements in sports field at the Arab, continental and global levels thanks to the unlimited support of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. All the Ministry staff and their families as well as diplomatic missions should participate in these events, Al-Attiyah said, expressing thanks to the organizing committee in the ministry for its efforts and wishing all a happy and healthy sports day.
