NAM Senior Officials Meeting Concludes
Doha, February 12 (QNA) - Senior Officials Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries concluded here today at the Ritz Carlton Hotel Doha under the chairmanship of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN, HE Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Thani.
The meeting endorsed the communique of the Third Ministerial Conference (the Doha Declaration) which will be raised to Their Excellencies the Ministers for adoption at the end of their meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The meeting also approved the report of the Senior Officials Preparatory Meeting.
HE Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Thani, in a speech at the closing session, described the results of the meeting as good and constructive, and recommended adoption of the draft of the Doha Declaration and Plan of Action in accordance with the report by the Working Committee of the Senior Officials Preparatory Meeting.
For his part, Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations, and Chairman of the Drafting Committee of Senior Officials Meeting for the Third Ministerial Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Ambassador Maged Abdelaziz said that in addition to raising the final document of the Doha Declaration, it was also decided to name the Dominican Republic Vice-President to the Bureau of the Ministerial Meeting for the Latin American region and the Caribbean, while the Republic of Granada was chosen for the position of Rapporteur of the Bureau.
He added in statement read at the closing session that discussions were characterized by constructive spirit and understanding between the representatives of all Member States of the Non-Aligned Movement, which enabled the work committees to unanimously agree on the document and submit it for approval.
The meeting discussed the report of the President of the Coordinating Bureau of Non-Aligned Movement on the outcome of the preparations for the Ministerial Conference on the advancement of women and considered the recommendations of the Ministerial Meeting and other programs on this and other related subjects.
Recommendations will be raised on Monday to the Third Ministerial meeting , which will be inaugurated by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah. (QNA)
