Qatar Proposes Forming a Mechanism for Empowering Women

Doha , February 13 (QNA) - The State of Qatar proposed Monday finding a mechanism to follow the Doha Declaration, which will be produced at the end of the Third NAM Ministerial Meeting on the advancement of women . The propositions also included finding mechanisms to follow the resolutions of the previous two meetings held in Malaysia 2005 and Guatemala 2009 respectively. The announcement was made by Dr. Johainah Sultan Al Eissa, who is the Deputy of the Director of the Supreme Council of Family Affairs, during a speech she was making during the works of the third meeting. Dr.Eissa expressed her support to the notion that the Doha declaration would be complementary to the resolutions made in Guatemala in 2009. Dr. Johainah Sultan Al Eissa, who is the Deputy Director of the Supreme Council of Family Affairs also stressed, in her address, Qatar's commitment to empower women in all aspects. She said in that regard that all of Qatar's national strategies focus on the advancement of women. She added that the vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani determined the foundations with which to build a modern country, based on a constitution and respect for the law and national institutions. She stressed that Qatar is determined to empower based on Sharia law and international agreements, adding that the government took a number of positive steps in that regard. She said that the government is also continuing in its efforts of finishing. Its developmental projects, with the participation of women, something which will help in the advancement in women as a main component of strategic development. She also said that Qatar's National Vision 2030 includes a number of issues relating to human rights and women in particular, in the fields of education, health and environment. The vision was created out of the country's keenness for enhancing the people's rights, she noted. Dr. Johainah Sultan Al Eissa also mentioned the Qatar National Development Strategy 2011-2016 which was launched by HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in March of last year, which was an executive roadmap for committing to the welfare of all the citizens.
