Princess concerned over flood-affected children and schools

BANGKOK, February 14 (TNA) - Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has expressed her concerns over children and schools affected by floods, in the wake of Thailand's massive flooding late last year, and has assigned her office to find practical ways to assist them. According to Somkiart Chobphol , an adviser to the Office of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Projects, the royal office has, therefore, worked out optional plans for flood-affected students and schools, including preparing special classes, as well as text books and exercises for them at temporary shelters and encouraging schools unaffected by floods to allow flood-affected students to temporarily join their classes. In addition, the Thai Princess has assigned her office to publish and provide guidances on "education during floods" to schools in flood-prone areas and to prepare necessities and text books to be distributed to students and libraries in the areas at risk of any repeated inundation. The advisor said that the Office of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Projects has also joined forces with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to help children be better and properly prepared for disasters by including disaster preparation subjects into curricula of local schools in the flood-prone areas.
