Gabon's FM: Doha Declaration, A Key Turning Point in the Advancement of Women in NAM States
Doha, February 14 (QNA)- HE the Gabonese Foreign Minister Paul Bundkal Latha, , has said that the Doha Declaration and the Programme of Action adopted by the participants during the plenary session of the third Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement on the Advancement of Women will represent a significant turning point in the path of advancement of women in the non-aligned movement (NAM) countries .
Paul Bundkal Latha stressed in an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Tuesday on the margins of the aforesaid meeting now in progress in Doha, that this Declaration will enhance significantly the international commitment to women's rights as per the principles and international treaties and the Millennium Development Goals.
He said Qatar's hosting of such a meeting come to continue each of the meeting of Malaysia in 2005 which was held under the theme, "Globalization and the advancement of women" and the meeting of Guatemala in 2009 which discussed how best to carry out the Millennium Development Goals and the empowerment of women and the Convention on Beijing in 1995 about women's empowerment.
The Gabonese Foreign Minister explained that the programme of work that emerged from the Doha meeting includes a number of mechanisms designed to induce states to implement their commitments to the advancement and empowerment of women in various sectors of political, economic and social development.
HE Paul Bundkal Latha made clear that this meeting calls on the international community to take into account the rights of women as one of the pillars of the comprehensive development and adoption of plans and programmes that act to develop and implement this concept.
At the level of cooperation between the State of Qatar and the State of Gabon in the advancement of women, HE the Gabonese Foreign Minister hailed relations between the two countries, stressing his country's due keenness on consolidating and strengthening ties of joint cooperation in various fields, especially regarding the exchange of experiences and expertise in the advancement of women.
HE the Gabonese Foreign Minister Paul Bundkal Latha meantime expressed deep gratitude for the leading experience of the Qatari women in the region, praising as well the several gains the Qatari women are enjoying at all levels.
Concluding his exclusive interview with QNA HE Paul Bundkal Latha, asserted that this , Qatari, experience can serve as an example to be followed up by the countries of the region. (QNA)
