Thai court approves arrest warrants against suspected Iranian bombers

BANGKOK, February 16 (TNA) - Bangkok's Criminal Court approved Thursday, as requested by police investigators, arrest warrants against four Iranians suspected to have involved in a spate of three bomb blasts in the Thai capital on February 14. Before making the decision, the Criminal Court of Southern Bangkok took hours to consider the police's request and evidence, consisting photographs from surveillance cameras, bombs seized from a rental house of the four Iranian suspects and testimonies of eyewitnesses and a police officer who tried to search an Iranian suspect and narrowly escaped a bomb attack, as the suspected Iranian, identified as Moradi Said, reached a bomb in his bag but accidentally dropped it on the road and exploded, causing a loss in his two legs. Moradi Said, who were among five wounded in the three explosions, has been charged with making and assembling bombs, possessing bombs without legal permission, causing harmful explosions and attempting to murder an officer on duty. The remaining Iranian suspects have faced various charges depending on their suspected offences. Meanwhile, Thai Deputy National Police Chief Police General Pansiri Prapawat convened the first full-panel meeting of concerned authorities at the Khlongton Police Station to discuss progress in the official investigation into the case. The authorities also examined objects seized from the suspected bombers, including radios containing C-4 explosives and documents from their rental house and from a bag of Moradi Said. The deputy national police chief told reporters that the police investigators are finding out the motivation of the bomb plot, visit records of the four Iranian suspects and sources of the explosives, with the Khlongton Police Station now functioning as the center of the investigation.
