Authority:UK not worried over terrorism in Thailand
BANGKOK, February 18 (TNA) - Deputy Bangkok Governor Teerachon Manomaiphibul said Saturday that the UK Ambassador and the visiting UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, as well as business operators are not worried over terrorism in Thailand in the wake of three bomb blasts in the Thai capital on February 14.
Teerachon told journalists of the UK perspective after meeting with UK Ambassador to Thailand Asif Ahmad, UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment Lord Green and representatives of UK business operators, as well as Secretary General of the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) Atchaka Sibunruang Brimble in Bangkok, following the bombing incidents on Sukhumvit 71 Road in the capital last Tuesday.
According to the deputy Bangkok governor, the UK top envoy, minister and other delegates acknowledged they believe that Thailand is not a target of transnational terrorism, and that Thai security authorities are capable of handling the situation.
The deputy Bangkok governor said, however, that the UK delegation expressed more concerns over flooding problems and water management in Thailand, cautioning that repeated flooding, if any, could affect UK tourists and greatly hurt UK business operators.
On this matter, the deputy governor told the UK delegation that new flood prevention measures and water management plans have already been actively prepared by the Thai government, months ahead of Thailand's rainy season around the middle of the year.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Thailand Kristie Kenney earlier met Thai Supreme Commander General Thanasak Patimaprakorn in Bangkok last Thursday, expressing her sympathy with the bombing incidents and confirming the US support for Thailand. (TNA)
