Thai government to buy tablet PCs from China

BANGKOK, February 18 (TNA) - The Thai government has prepared to purchase tablet personal computers (PCs) for primary school students from China. Education Minister Suchart Tadatamrongvej said that the plan is part of the Thai government’s one-tablet PC, one-student scheme and, thus, his ministry will soon seek the Cabinet's approval of the purchase of the tablet PCs from China via a government-to-government (G-to-G) contract. The minister confirmed transparency of the buying procedure, noting that China is a best producer of computer tablets and Bangkok and Beijing have remained sound relations for a long time. According to the minister, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will handle the tablet PCs purchase contract. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, meanwhile, has confirmed that the tablet PCs purchase plan from China does not violate Article 190 of Thailand's 2007 Constitution. (TNA)
