Doha Hosts 80 World Shell Managers
Doha, February 18 (QNA) - Up to 80 leaders from Shell production assets around the world met in Doha for the first time this week to discuss best practices in asset operation, safety and most importantly measures taken to deliver production targets around the Shell group.
This meeting brought together the most senior members of the production community in Shell to discuss success stories and share best practices with the ultimate objective of continuing to deliver production targets set by Shell. A considerable part of the discussions focused on process safety and the learnings from different operating sites to close potential gaps and achieve maximum plant availability.
The three-day meeting took place in Qatar in recognition of the country s status not only as one of the largest production centres for Shell but also as a center of excellence for commissioning, starting up and sustaining production from world class facilities.
Andy Brown, Executive Vice President of Shell in Qatar and Managing Director of Pearl gas to liquids (GTL) plant said: "We are pleased with the commissioning and start-up of our world class project Pearl GTL. The technology we harnessed over 40 years delivered the expected results and current ramp up of production from the plant s two production units (trains) is satisfactory."
He added: "Pearl GTL had a unique safety record during construction that extended to the production phase. A few days ago, the plant achieved 10 million man hours without a lost time incident. This is a very rare achievement on a plant during the commissioning and start-up phase."
A visit to Pearl GTL was organized for all the participants, giving them insight into the current progress achieved in the plant s operation. They were also introduced to the Pride in Production programme, designed to create a work culture where people feel connected and valued.
Pearl GTL is the largest energy project in Qatar and, at $18 19 billion, is Shell s largest investment in a single project anywhere in the world. Once in full production, Pearl GTL will convert 1.6 billion standard cubic feet per day of wellhead gas into 260,000 barrels per day of products, comprising 140,000 bbl/d of GTL products and 120,000 bbl/d of condensate, LPG and ethane.
At peak construction over 50,000 people from 60 countries were involved in the construction of the giant onshore complex. Because of genuine focus on safety and workers welfare the project delivered outstanding safety, productivity and quality standards. (QNA)
