Malaysia On Right Track In Governing Financial, Economic Resources

SEMPORNA (Sabah, Malaysia), Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's ability to achieve Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 5.2 per cent last year indicated that the country is on the right track in managing its financial and economic resources, according to Rural and Regional Development Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal. "In today challenging economic situation and while European countries and the United States are trying to overcome economic crisis, we still managed to achieve GDP growth of 5.2 per cent. "This is indeed a proud achievement. Besides, in 2010, we estimated a deficit of 5.6 per cent (for 2011), but what we have is just five per cent. This is a sign that we are on the right track in governing Malaysia's financial and economic resources," he told reporters after opening a Maulidur Rasul celebration here Monday. Present was Minister in Sabah Chief Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nasir Tun Sakaran. Mohd Shafie said another indicator that proved that Malaysia was on the right track was its ability to create over 100,000 jobs last year. However, he said all efforts to sustain the country's growth momentum would need the support from all quarters, including the private and public sectors.
