India-Phuket direct flights start in April 2012

BANGKOK, February 21 (TNA) - India will operate direct flights between its two major cities and Thailand's southern resort Phuket Province, starting from mid-2012. Somboon Jirayus, President of the Phuket Tourism Association, said on Tuesday that there will be two weekly flights between New Delhi, India's capital, and Phuket from April 15 onward and two more weekly flights between Mumbai and Phuket from April 16 onward. Somboon acknowledged that Indian travellers usually visit Phuket during its low season and their arrivals are growing well. The Phuket tourism association chief predicted that tourism in Phuket should, therefore, grow steadily, with international tourist arrivals, including those from India, likely to keep flowing into the renowned Thai resort island throughout the year. According to the Phuket tourism association chief, his association and the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization have regularly conducted marketing campaigns in old and new markets, including those in Japan, Taiwan and Europe, to promote tourism in Phuket on a continual basis.
