Qatar to Participates in 43th Session of UN Statistical Committee to Kick off in NY on Feb.28

Doha, February 22 (QNA) - The State of Qatar will take part in the 43rd session of the Statistical Commission is scheduled to be held at United Nations Headquarters, New York from 28 February to 2 March 2012. The opening session will take place at the ECOSOC Chamber (Temporary North Lawn Building). HE President of Qatar's Statistics Authority (QSA) Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani , will lead his country's delegation to such a high -level session meetings. The QSA chief said in a press release issued here on Wednesday that HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor Al Thani, will offer during the meeting a presentation entitled "Measuring and monitoring of community participation in the State of Qatar", highlighting the importance of community participation in the national development process with a special emphasis on the participation of all residents of Qatar in support of the state's efforts in achieving the goals of national development strategy in order to achieve Qatar Vision 2030. The presentation will also showcase that the hosting by Qatar of the 2022 World Cup represents a development project that has several economic and social repercussions that will further contribute to the completion of several projects at the level of infrastructure and informatics, industrial, tourism and other projects. The United Nations Statistical Commission, established in 1947, is the apex entity of the global statistical system. It brings together the Chief Statisticians from member states from around the world. It is the highest decision making body for international statistical activities especially the setting of statistical standards, the development of concepts and methods and their implementation at the national and international level. The Statistical Commission oversees the work of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), and is a Functional Commission of the UN Economic and Social Council.(QNA)
