Qatar Stars League Cup: Stage Set for Semi-finals

Doha, February 24 (QNA) -- After a break of more than two months, the top four sides in QNB Qatar Stars Cup will be seen in action for the semi-finals this week. Qatar Stars League (QSL) giants Lekhwiya take on Al Wakra in the first semi-final on February 26th at Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium. A day later, Umm Salal play Al Kharaitiya in the second semi-final at the same venue. Both matches will start at 4:45pm. Barring Lekhwiya, three of the four teams shocked football fans by outplaying giants like Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, Al Jaish, Qatar SC and Al Gharafa to reach to knock-out stage of the event. After playing five matches each, Al Wakra, Umm Salal and Al Kharaitiyat joined Lekhwiya at the top of the point’s standings and sealed their semi-finals berths. In Group A, Lekhwiya won 4 of their 5 matches to finish at the top of the points table followed by Al Kharaitiyat who won 3 matches. In Group B, Umm Salal won 3 out of their 5 matches whereas Al Wakra posted 2 wins from 5 fixtures to emerge as the top two sides. Qatar Stars Cup is one of five major football events that take place in Qatar every season. The other major events include Sheikh Jassim Cup, Qatar Stars League (QSL), the Heir Apparent Cup and the Emir's Cup. The final will be played on March 1st. (QNA)
