CSEM: Yemeni raisins subject to big losses due to exporting Chinese

SANA'A, Oct. 06 (Saba)- The Center of Studies and Economic Media
CSEM warned on Monday increasing losses of Yemeni raisins due to
exporting raisins from China.

The center estimated that losses at 60 percent to 70 percent during
Eid season, which is considered season of marketing this
agricultural product.

In its message to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Ministry of
Agriculture, Saba got a copy of it, the center asked the two
ministries to tackle this problem by finding out mechanism to
encourage farms to go ahead with cultivation of grapes to made
raisins.

The price of one kilo of Chinese raisins is between 700 to 1000
Yemeni rayls , in time the price of one kilo of Yemeni raisins is
between 18,00 to 2,500 Yemeni rayls, the center said.

It urged to protect quality of the Yemeni raisins, asking to take
hard action against traders who are mixing Yemeni raisins with
Chinese.

The center said such act would impact on the reputation of the
Yemeni high quality raisins.
