Credit card users to accede to ATM services

(KPL) The Lao Central Bank is planning to link the ATM (auto teller machine) service of all banks to provide better service to their customers.
The plan was released at a press conference to mark the 40th founding anniversary of the Bank of the Lao PDR on 3 October that drew its Governor Phoupheth Khamphouvong. Governor Phoupheth said that 91 ATM belonging to five banks are available for public use throughout the country. At the moment there are now more than 61,600 ATM card holders.
He said that the bank has pursued the policy of promoting the payment of monthly salaries through ATM service. Employees of 98 business units and ministries receive their monthly salaries through the ATM service, said Mr Phouphet.
“In this way, the bank pays attention to the management of the flow of foreign currencies and the promotion of the use of the national currency Kip,” he continued.
He said that if everyone used the local currency, the national currency would gain its value and contribute to the socio-economic development. It was generally important for Lao people to use their own currency, he concluded.
