Qatar Phillharmonic Orchestra features Oud Concerto Saturday at Katara

Doha, March 06 (QNA) -Qatar Phillharmonic Orchestra will feature a world premiere Oud Concerto by the guest artist Charbel Rouhana next Saturday at the Opera House, Katara cultural village. The Oud concerto, a music piece by the composer Abdallah El-Masri, will be led by the guest conductor,Thomas Kalb. The concert will also feature other music pieces as the Sensemaya symphony by the Mexican composer Silvister Revueltas, and the Symphony No. 2 for Reinhold Gliere. Abdallah El-Masri, a lebanese composer, studied at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory where he earned his MFA and Ph.D as well. His works include Symphony No. 1 in 1991, Symphony No. 2 a small orchestra in 1994, a Violin Concerto in 2001, Piano Concerto in 2003, and "Matar" for mezzo-soprano and orchestra in 2010. Charbel Rouhana, born in 1965, earned a Diploma in oud performance and a MA in musicology. He is an author of eight books describing styles and methods of playing the oud, a teacher at USEK The Holy-Spirit University and at Lebanon s National Conservatory of Music. Rouhana is a winner of the Murex d Or for the year 2000 as the Musician of the Year, and the first Prize at the 1990 Hirayama, Japan competition for the best composition "Hymn of Peace".(QNA)
