Lao female footballs leave for ASEAN Women’s Championship in Vietnam

(KPL) The Lao National Women’s Football squad arrived in Vietnam on Monday ready to play its first match today in Ho Chi Minh City.
The team is accompanied by head coach Volker Hofferbert and the Lao Women’s Football Federation President, Ms Phouninh Lasjkul.
Ms Phouninh said the team comprised young, relatively inexperienced players, but she believed they would defeat Indonesia and Malaysia. It is also scheduled to compete against Myanmar and Vietnam.
A Lao Women’s League Division One leading goal scorer, Ms Souphavanh Phayvanh, said Vietnam would be a tough match for her teammates. The competition will run till 20 October.
Laos competed in the 2007 ASEAN Women’s Championship in Myanmar, beating Singapore 3-1 but conceded 1-13 to Thailand and 0-7 to the host.
The team hopes to gain experience from this competition in preparation for the Southeast Asian Games, to be held in Vientiane next year.
The groups of the ASEAN Championships are:
Group A: Reigning competition champions Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos and Malaysia.
Group B: Australia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
