Victim of Bangkok hotel fire remains in hospital
BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) - Only one victim of last week’s fire at Grand Park Avenue Hotel on Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 22 Road remained in hospital on Sunday, while a senior official of Tourism and Sports Ministry said the ministry would cooperate with the Russian embassy in the Thai capital in giving assistance to tourists.
Tourism Department Director-General Supol Sripan said a Russian couple had died in the blaze which hit the hotel last Thursday night, while a man was still receiving treatment at Chulalongkorn Hospital. The patient was conscious but was still in need of a respirator.
Mr. Supol said the patient still had to stay in hospital for several more days while the hotel owner would be responsible in paying hospital bills for every fire victim.
While the tour company which brought the Russian tourists to Thailand will be responsible for their journey home, the Tourism Department will cooperate with the Russian embassy in ensuring that none of the tourists are stranded in the kingdom, Mr. Supol added. (TNA)
