More documents required for Thailand's extradition request of bombing suspect from Malaysia

BANGKOK, March 29 (TNA) - Malaysia has requested more documents from Thailand as part of the neighbouring country's consideration whether it will extradite an Iranian suspect earlier arrested in connection with three bomb blasts in Bangkok last February 14. Following a recent trip of a team of Thai prosecutors and investigators to Malaysia to seek the extradition of the suspect, Sedaghat Zadeh Masoud, Thai Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Police Major General Anuchai Lekbamrung told reporters Thursday that the Malaysian authorities have asked for more relevant documents from their Thai counterparts for their further consideration of the Thai extradition request, with a timeframe for their investigating process and final decision having been undisclosed. The Iranian suspect, who has remained under Malaysian police custody, has been alleged to have involved in the spate of three bomb blasts and a failed bomb attack targeted at Israeli diplomats in Bangkok on this year's Saint Valentine’s Day. He was then arrested in Malaysia the following day, after the arrest of his associates in Bangkok. The Thai metropolitan deputy police chief said, meanwhile, that a recent move by India to also seek Kuala Lumpur's approval of the extradition of the same Iranian terrorist suspect for prosecution in New Delhi for his alleged link with a bomb attack against the Israeli Embassy to India on February 13 will also be up to the Malaysian judicial authorities' decision.
