Those Who Burnt Holy Quran Speak Of Human Rights: Sri Lankan Prez
New Delhi, April 3, IRNA – Sharply reacting over the US sponsored Human Rights resolution adopted last week, Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa Monday said: “Those who burnt the Holy Quran speak of human rights”.
The US sponsored UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution adopted last week censured Sri Lanka on its human rights record during three-decade-long civil war.
At a public function marking the launch of the “one development program for one village” under the 2012 village uplift program in Bandaragama (western province) the President said that those people who had committed the worst act of burning the Holy Quran are speaking of human rights, Navamani (Tamil weekly) said in a mailed interview to IRNA.
He said that all people in Sri Lanka whether they are Sinhalese, Tamils or Muslims have the same rights and those rights would be safeguarded.
“They are all citizens of mother Lanka and our people have a good understanding of what the human rights are. They will not allow any other foreign forces to subjugate them and they would not allow terrorism to raise its head again,” he added.
The Sri Lankan President said that his country has a rich and proud record of safeguarding human rights./end
