Iranian literary scholar Shafiei Kadkani publishes new study on Persian poetry

TEHRAN,April 5(MNA) – Prominent Iranian literary scholar Mohammadreza Shafiei Kadkani recently published a book, which is about impact of foreign works translated into Persian on the contemporary Persian poetry. Entitled “With Light and Mirror; In Quest of Roots of Iran’s Contemporary Poetry Evolution”, the book has been released by Nashr-e Sokhan Publications. He has several books on the life and works of classic Persian poets and he has also authored books on different aspects of Persian poetry over the past years. After reviewing the impact of social and political elements on Persian poetry, he explains in his book the influence of translation on contemporary poetry in Iran. “The evolution of modern Persian poetry in the past century is a function of the variables of translation of European literature and poetry in the realm of Persian language,” he mentioned in his book. Writer, critic, and literary theoretician Shafiei Kadkani was born in 1939 in Neyshabur. He received his doctorate in Persian literature from the University of Tehran and was a student of such prominent figures as scholars Badiozzaman Foruzanfar, Mohammad Moin and Parviz Natelkhanlari. He is currently a professor of literature at the University of Tehran and is renowned for his works on literary criticism and modern Persian poetry.
