18 CCTVs burnt in Yala

BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) – A total of 18 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in southern Yala province were burnt early Monday by insurgents apparently in retaliation for earlier arrest of their key member. Police Lieutenant-Colonel Somprat Kankanont, chief of the Kotabaru police station, led bomb disposal and forensic squads to inspect and gather evidences on Yala - Kotabaru road in Raman district following reports of the attacks. Pieces of cloth soaked with gasoline believed to be used as fire tinder were found on the road, Police Lieutenant-Colonel Somprat said. The 18 CCTV cameras were installed in Kota Baru, Noen Ngam and Ba-ngoi sub-districts, he said. Witnesses told police that a group of young motorcyclists torched the 18 CCTV cameras between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Monday. Police believe the attacks were to respond to the arrest of Dullahaseng Yamasaka, a key insurgent suspect. (TNA)
