Red shirt demonstrators gather to remember past protests
BANGKOK, April 11 (TNA) - Red-shirt people, including Tida Thawornset, chair of the red-clad National United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), and UDD co-leaders namely Natthawut Saikua, Jatuporn Prompan, Korkaew Pikulthong and Dr. Weng Tojirakan showed up in front of Satriwithaya School near the Democracy Monument here at 10am Wednesday to conduct a ceremony to remember their red-shirt fellows who were killed during their protest on April 10, 2010.
Relatives of the political fatalities also attended a Buddhist ceremony at the venue, with photographs and ashes of the dead, to pray for their peaceful spirit.
Tida said that the ceremony was to remember those killed near the Democracy Monument and nearby Khok Wua Intersection. After the ceremony, the red-shirts had lunch and part of them later rallied in Nong Khai Province in the Thai Northeast Wednesday evening, before going to Vientiane to meet exiled ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
According to the UDD chairwoman, the Thai government has made progress in investigating incidents on April 10, 2010, calling for fair investigations for both concerned government officers and people and the government to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court as the UDD plans to ask the court to probe the demonstration crackdown on April 10, 2010.
