Amnesty may spark off new round of conflict, says Abhisit
BANGKOK, April 13 (TNA) - Democrat Party and opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva warns the government must take precautions on its amnesty law plan, saying the issue may pull the country into a new round of conflict.
Lashing out at the government’s attempt to amend the charter and pass an amnesty law, Mr Abhisit said to reporters on Friday the government should rather be focused on people’s economic problems.
But dashing off the comments, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who is celebrating Songkran with her family in Chiang Mai province, said Thai people should regard the Thai New Year as a new beginning for love and forgiveness. She said if all parties were able to reconcile, Thailand would be a happy society.
Asked if the political atmosphere of Thailand would improve over next year, Miss Yingluck said she was optimistic that a positive atmosphere would lead to national reconciliation. (TNA)
