Bangkok's First Green Petrol Station Opened
BANGKOK, April 25 (TNA) - Thailand's Bangchak Petroleum Public Company Limited (Bangchak) has opened its first Green Petrol Station here in a bid to widely campaign for use of renewable energy among local motorists.
Thai Energy Minister Arak Chonthanon opened the capital's first Green Petrol Station on the inbound side of Vibhavadi Rangsit Road Wednesday morning, saying that the station supports the government’s campaign for the use of E20 and E85 gasohol and his ministry will encourage other oil companies in the country to follow suit, after the initiation of state-backed Bangchak and PTT Public Company Limited (PTT).
Bangchak President Anusorn Sangnimnuan told journalists that Bangchak's first Green Petrol Station provides all kinds of renewable energy; while solar cells are also installed to supply power for the petrol station, its convenient store and other shops in the compound.
Anusorn said that there are also a model plantation of oil algae and a garden of renewable energy at the Green Petrol Station, and that Bangchak is considering opening such a few more Green Petrol Stations in Bangkok to promote the brand of Bangchak.
According to the Bangchak President, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has suggested that Bangchak increase its solar power generation by 50 megawatts in Prachin Buri, Kamphaeng Phet, Chaiyaphum and Lop Buri provinces, the project of which will totally cost about 4 billion baht with its power generation set to start by 2014.
