Poland donates 552-year-old Persian Gulf map to Iran

TEHRAN,April 26(MNA) -- The National Library of Poland has donated a Persian Gulf map which dates back to 1460 to the Iran National Library and Archives (INLA). The director of the Polish library, Tomasz Artur Makowski, handed over the map to INLA Director Es’haq Salahi during his visit to Iran on Tuesday. Makowski said that the donation of the map is expected to boost relations between Tehran and Warsaw. Makowski and Salahi also discussed the expansion of cultural ties during a meeting on Tuesday. He said that several manuscripts on Persian music are kept at the National Library of Poland. During the meeting, Salahi announced that over 875 books, 215 photos, and 236 documents related to Poland are kept at INLA. Salahi said that parts of the documents related to World War II were compiled in a book. The two libraries plan to exchange documents and manuscripts in the foreseeable future. The National Library of Poland acts as the central library of the state and one of the most important cultural institutions in Poland. Its mission is to protect national heritage preserved in the form of handwritten, printed, electronic, recorded sound and audiovisual documents. The primary task of the National Library of Poland is to acquire, store and permanently archive the intellectual output of Poles, whether the works of citizens living on Polish soil, the most important foreign works, or publications related to Poland published abroad.
