Photos on Iranian identity on display at Cardiff gallery
TEHRAN,April 26(MNA) -- A group of young Iranian photographers are holding a group exhibition at Ffotogallery in Cardiff, Wales.
Entitled “Bi Nam, the Image and Identity of Iran”, the exhibit runs from April 21 to May 12 at the gallery.
Raz Golestani, Hadiseh Hosseini, Mehregan Kazemi, Amak Mahmudian, Sharareh Musavi, Raufeh Rostami, Mohsen Shahmardi, Arya Tabandepur, and Mohsen Yazdipur are the photographers whose works are on display at the event.
“Bi Nam” which means ‘without name’ in the Persian language, uses a structure that evokes the classic Middle Eastern collection of stories One Thousand and One Nights, Bi Nam explores the subtleties of everyday life in contemporary Iran and specific codes of conduct that influence a person’s mood, behavior, relationships and sense of self.
“Bi Nam” will be the first show in the UK representing the work of a group of contemporary Iranian photographers. The photographic and video content of the exhibition explores the cultural and social life of modern Iran, with an emphasis on religion, gender and identity.
Amak Mahmudian, one of the participating artists and the exhibition curator, describes the exhibition as ‘quiet thoughts from modest photographers for whom the essence of culture is in the display of their works’.
