€100m loan case sent to court

BANDAR ABBAS, May 3 (MNA) – The case of 100 million-euro banking loan has been referred to court, State Inspectorate Organization Director Mostafa Pourmohammadi announced on Wednesday. The organization announced on Monday that a new incident of banking corruption had been uncovered in the southern province of Hormozgan. It said 100 million euros had been loaned to a private company by a state bank without ensuring the necessary collateral was put in place. “I hope that this case be investigated with sensitivity and seriousness,” Pourmohammadi told a question and answer session with seminary students in the port city of Bandar Abbas. He said a person who has succeeded to secure such a large sum of loan through nepotism can employ a “professional lawyer” to escape legal punishment, adding, “I request the judicial body to pay a special care” to the case. On the role of some executive officials in the 2.6 billion dollar fraud which its case is under review in a court in Tehran, he said the documents show that executive officials have not “directly received” any bribes in this financial scandal. However, executive officials claim that “we did our official duties,” Pourmohammadi, a former interior minister, explained.
