Thai PM:Goods prices are on downward trend
BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reiterated Saturday that prices of consumer products on the domestic market, namely those of eggs and farm products, are now on their downward trend.
As retail egg prices are considered a key barometer for inflation in the country, Yingluck told journalists, while helping campaigns in a forthcoming by-election for a candidate of her ruling Puea Thai Party at San Kamphaeng Market in the northern Chiang Mai province, her hometown, that egg prices are showing signs of declining as supply is exceeding demand and concerned officials will soon have to find ways in preserving or processing eggs to balance demand and supply on the domestic market.
Yingluck said that fruit prices have also begun falling; while those of several other consumer products, including pork, have now become stable, thanks to rising supply in the wake of Thailand's flooding crisis late last year.
The Pheu Thai premier insisted that her coalition government is busy trying to control rising costs of living for people, noting that she has ordered the Ministry of Commerce to closely monitor goods prices and market mechanisms.
The prime minister told people welcoming her and accompanying ministers that her Pheu Thai Party-led administration will implement every policy announced during election campaigns last year, especially the Women Development Fund as the number of women in Thailand has now exceeded half of the country's total population.
