1,138 senior citizens over 100 live in Tehran

TEHRAN, May 16 (MNA) - Head of the elderly bureau of the Health Ministry said there are 1,891 people over the age of 100 in Tehran province out of whom 1,138 are living in the city of Tehran. Dr. Parisa Taheri told the Mehr News Agency that 8.6 percent of the 5 million elderly people are living in Tehran. The International Health Organization has predicted that by 2050, up to 80 percent of the populations in the developed countries will be about 80 years old. Currently, Italy has the most number of elderly people in proportion to its population.
