French star Cotillard joins Farhadi’s new project

TEHRAN,May 19(MNA) -- French Oscar winner Marion Cotillard will star in Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi’s next project, which is scheduled to begin in Paris in autumn. Memento Films Production co-director Alexander Mallet-Guy will produce the film, which is untitled as yet. “I’m very pleased that Marion Cotillard has joined us in this amazing adventure,” Mallet-Guy told French film trade Le FilmFrançais at Cannes. Mallet-Guy said that the storyline of the new project will be revealed after Farhadi completes the screenplay. However, he had previously said that the film will be a love story between an Iranian girl and a boy of North African origins. He also said that French actor of Algerian origin Tahar Rahim will play one of the leading roles. The €11-million picture will be his first project that is scheduled to be shot outside of his native Iran. Memento Films Production distributed Farhadi’s previous films “About Elly” and “A Separation” in France. The company is currently promoting “A Separation at Cannes Film Market (Marché du Film). “A Separation” won an Oscar, Golden Globe and French César for best foreign film earlier this year as well Berlin’s Golden Bear in 2011. Cotillard won an Academy Award, BAFTA, César and Golden Globe for her performance in Olivier Dahan’s “La Vie en Rose” in 2007. Cotillard is a front-runner for the best actress prize at Cannes for her performance in “Rust and Bone”.
