Islamic humanities discussed at international congress in Tehran

TEHRAN,May 21(MNA) -- Tehran hosted the First International Congress on Islamic Humanities on Sunday, in which the religious approach to reproduction of humanities in the country was discussed. Experts from India, Malaysia, Palestine, Pakistan, Lebanon and Turkey attended the one-day event, which was held at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) International Conference Hall. Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani, who was the director of the congress, made the opening speech, stressing on significance of Islamic humanities. “Humanities has developed in the West over the past centuries, and conducting research work on humanities requires time and efforts. “If we are planning to make changes in humanities, we need to make every endeavor to invest,” he said, adding, “Changes in humanities do not take place in a short time. We need to help the humanity foundations at the universities, but also try to replace Islamic humanities instead.” Common approaches to Islamic Humanities in the world of Islam and the connections between humanities and natural sciences were also discussed at the congress. “Meaning, nature and features of Islamic humanities”, “philosophy and methodology of Islamic humanities”, “ideas, approaches and theories raised in Islamic humanities”, and “issues and barriers to making Islamic humanities functional” were among the topics offered at the congress. The director of the Policy-Making Council of the congress, Hojjatoleslam Reza Gholami, regarded the congress one of the major events in he world of Islam during the past decade. He said that the most important step in the formation of Islamic humanities is investing on production of thoughts and ideas.
