Iranian director Beizaii to stage shadow play at Stanford University
TEHRAN,May 22(MNA) -- The prominent Iranian playwright and director Bahram Beizaii will perform a shadow play performance of “Jana and Baladoor” at the Cubberley Community Center of Stanford University in June.
His troupe has planned to give four performances, first of which will be on June 27.
The play, which is a magical combination of poetry and puppets music and myth, is in Persian with English supertitles.
The play recounts the drama of a world dominated by dark demons, and the heroic battles of four mythic siblings.
They represent the four elements of air, water, earth and fire and their battles redeem and re-enchant the world.
Considered as one of the most intellectual auteur in Iranian cinema, Beizaii has written and directed several films including “When We Are All Asleep”, “Killing Mad Dogs”, “Travelers”, “Bashu, the Little Stranger”, “The Journey” and “The Downpour”.
His recent book “Where Are the Thousand Legends?” was released by the Roshangaran and Women Studies Publications in Tehran last week,
The book is presenting proofs and documents that “The Thousand and One Nights” is of Persian origin.
