Analyst Urges West To Address Iran’s Concerns

Islamabad, May 27, IRNA - A Pakistani analyst on Saturday said that it is responsibility of western states to assure Iran that they are sincere in resolving disputes with Islamic Republic. Talking to IRNA, Rasul Baksh Rais, Professor of Political Science at Lahore University of Management Sciences said that dialogue must continue between Iran and West to solve disputes. “They (West) are trying to isolate Iran through pressure,” he said. The analyst went on to say that western states especially the US are using United Nations (UN) against Iran which is unjustified. The second round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 ended in the Iraqi capital on Thursday. Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili and the European Union (EU) Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton co-chaired the talks. The EU Foreign Policy Chief, Catherin Ashton has said that the next round of the Iran-G5+1 talks will be held in Moscow from June 18-19. Rasul Baksh Rais hailed resumption of dialogue between Iran and West, adding that issues can be resolved through talks. He said that success of talks is in the interest of both Iran and western countries. The analyst was of the view that Iran has been assuring the world that it is pursuing a peaceful nuclear program. He viewed that Iran wants West to remain sincere in dialog. “West must address concerns of Iran,” he pointed out. “The chances of success of dialog between Iran and 5+1 are bright,” he said. “The dialogue must continue without any hindrance,” he opined. The intellectual expressing his views said Iran is a strong country and has become an example for other Muslim countries. Rais has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California. He has published widely in professional journals on political and security issues pertaining to South Asia, Indian Ocean and Afghanistan./end
