Iran to establish high council for the disabled
TEHRAN, May 28 (MNA) – To better protect the rights of physically and mentally challenged people, a plan has been devised to establish a high council for the disabled, a Welfare Organization official said.
In the Article 18 of the comprehensive law for supporting the disabled an emphasis has been put on establishing such a council, says Yahya Sokhangouii, director of the rehabilitation center of the Welfare Organization.
Sokhangouii told the Mehr News Agency that after the new parliament, which held its first session on Sunday (May 27), endorses the comprehensive law on supporting the disabled immediate steps will be taken for the formation of the council in cooperation with concerned bodies.
Sokhangouii said the head of the Majlis disabled faction, representatives of non-governmental associations, director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the vice president for supervision and strategic affairs, and other officials will be members of the council.
Once the council is formed disabled persons will be helped to form a family and they will be provided with special marriage loans, houses, and consultancy and social services among others, Sokhangouii explained.
