Tehran says verdicts against nationals in Kuwait are unacceptable

TEHRAN, May 29 (MNA) – Iran on Tuesday said prison sentences against four of its nationals in Kuwait are “surprising” and “totally unacceptable”. The response by the Iran came as some Arab media outlets reported on Monday that Kuwait has issued prison sentences against four Iranian nationals under claims of “spying charges”. “Recently some baseless claims have been made which are surprising and we consider them as unacceptable,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told a regular news briefing. He added, “Such verdicts are not acceptable by any means and the fact that this issue had already been dismissed by Kuwaiti officials (and) is being raised again surprises us.” He also said Kuwait did not give Iran consular access to these nationals. “We hope that Kuwait will review its approach and we witness the release of our country’s nationals,” he noted.
