Malaysia Ranked 36th In Education Sector
IPOH (Perak, Malaysia), June 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysia ranked 36th out of 48
countries evaluated in the higher education sector by Universitas 21 (U21), a
leading global network of research-intensive universities.
Malaysian Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the research
had taking into account the overall performance of the sector, including the
education system itself, access as well as enrolment of women at universities.
"Recently, there was a rating done by studying our education system as a
whole. Our country was ranked 36th...this was the first ever study done by
U21," he told reporters after launching the Polytechnic Reskilling and
Upskilling programme here, Thursday.
According to the U21 website, the research done by the researchers from
University of Melbourne last May, had chosen 48 countries with different levels
of economic development in Europe, Asia, Latin America, North America and
Middle East/Africa.
Based on the research, Malaysia scored 50.5 per cent overall in the areas
evaluated which included resources, environment, connectivity and output.
The United States, Sweden, Canada, Finland and Denmark were the top five
while Italy, Hungary and Slovakia were the bottom three in the ranking
list.
In a related development, Mohamed Khaled also congratulated University of
Malaya (ranked 35th) and National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan
Malaysia, ranked 58th) for their good rankings in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)
World University Rankings.
