Suu Kyi: Myanmar Needs Human Capital To Support Reformation

Bangkok, June 1 (ANTARA) - Myanmar needs "human capacity building" to support its reformation agenda, the country`s prominent political leader Aung San Suu Kyi said here on Friday, at the World Economic Forum on East Asia held in Shangrila Hotel Bangkok. "Myanmar`s reformation to me means the improvement of people`s capacity. Currently, there is high unemployment, particularly among the young people in Myanmar. This can be a time bomb for the country," she stated. Suu Kyi said Myanmar`s reformation agenda would be hampered if the country`s human resources were not prepared enough to implement it. She emphasised the need for local people to get proper education in order to improve their quality of life. She expressed hope the international community would assist Myanmar in such efforts. Suu Kyi addressed the World Economic Forum in Bangkok during her first overseas visit since she was arrested 24 years ago.
