Suu Kyi ends historic visit at Thai-Myanmar border

BANGKOK, June 3 (TNA) - Myanmar’s opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi ended her historic visit to Thailand on Saturday at the Thai-Myanmar border. Speaking at a press conference in Mae Sot, Daw Suu Kyi said she was grateful to the people of Thailand, where she arrived on her first foreign trip outside Myanmar in 24 years. Apart from attending the World Economic Forum, she said the trip provided her with an opportunity to witness firsthand, the plight of her compatriots living in the Kingdom, who are migrant workers and refugees. Among other things, she stressed that more improvement in Myanmar’s politics and economy would eventually end the decade-long refugee crisis along the Thai-Myanmar border while improving the livelihood of her countrymen at home.
