Iranian center to honor Pakistani Persian language expert Arif Naushahi

TEHRAN,June 5(MNA) -- Pakistani Persian language expert Arif Naushahi will be commemorated by the Miras Maktoob Research Center during a ceremony in Tehran next month.
The ceremony will be held on the sidelines of a conference on Persian manuscripts and printed texts from the subcontinent of India in Tehran on July 11, the center announced on its website.
A book about Naushahi’s great efforts in Persian language education in South Asia will be unveiled during the ceremony.
Naushahi, 57, is a Pakistani scholar who specializes in Persian literature. He completed his Ph.D. in the Persian language and literature at the University of Tehran in 1993.
He is currently the head of the Persian Language Department of Gordon College, Rawalpindi.
His published research based on Persian manuscripts has been mainly devoted to the study of literature and Sufism, bibliography and the cataloging of manuscripts.
Naushahi’s major published works includes “Catalogue of the Persian Manuscripts in the National Museum of Pakistan” “Catalogue of the Persian Manuscripts in Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu in Karachi”, and “Catalogue of the Urdu Manuscripts in Ganj Bakhsh Library of Islamabad”.
His main contribution in bibliographical works is “A Bibliography of Litho-Print and Rare Persian Books in Ganj Bakhsh Library of Islamabad” and “A Bibliography of Persian Books Printed in the Subcontinent since 1780 to 2008”.
Naushahi is scheduled to deliver a speech about the history of bibliography in the subcontinent of India during the conference.
Necdet Tosun of Marmara University in Turkey, Sharif Hussain Qasemi of the University of New Delhi, Moinuddin Aqeel of the University of Karachi and several other international Persian literati have been invited to the conference.
