Tbilisi State University honors Georgian Iranologist Lili Zorzoliani

TEHRAN,June 5(MNA) -- Tbilisi State University paid homage to Georgian Iranologist Lili Zorzoliani last week for her prominent role in promoting Persian poet Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh in her country. The ceremony took place at the university on Thursday, and was attended by Iranian Ambassador Majid Saber, Iranian Cultural Attaché Ehsan Khazaei and a group of Georgian literati. Zorzoliani is an expert on the Shahnameh and its Georgian translations. She has been the head of the Department of Persian Language and Literature of Tbilisi State University since 2006. She has compiled over 40 articles on Persian literature. The ceremony began with a brief speech by Saber. He pointed to the history of the course of Iranology at Tbilisi State University and paid tribute to Zorzoliani for her extensive research on Persian literature. Khazaei also honored the scholar and added that the Iranian Cultural Attaché’s Office has published two books by Zorzoliani. The Shahnameh, which is known as the “Book of Kings” in English, is the celebrated work of the Persian epic poet Ferdowsi. It was completed in 1010.
